Our youth are the leaders of the future!
The Dashing W Farm High School Leadership Workshop provides teens with the opportunity to learn about team building and leadership issues. The half-day workshop is a condensed version of the Leadership & Team Development Workshop that we offer to corporate groups.
As an alternative to the half day format, the workshop can also be offered as three 1.5 hour sessions. The activities with the horses focus on issues related to developing first impressions and establishing relationships with others, as well as the role of trust, cooperation, and collaboration for effective team work.
The workshop includes the CliftonStrengths assessment of each student to help each participant recognize and use their own strengths and to also appreciate the strengths of others.
Components of the Workshop
Prior to the workshop, we meet with the appropriate advisors of the student group to learn about the specific learning objectives they would like to establish for the students. We include an on-line, strengths-based assessment of each student, where each participant receives a copy of the book Strengths-Based Leadership by Tom Rath, with a code for accessing the online assessment.
Based on our meeting with student advisors, we prepare a workshop agenda that outlines the activities to be performed and the targeted learning objectives for each activity. Our standard agenda focuses on issues related to developing first impressions and establishing relationships with others, as well as the role of trust, cooperation, and collaboration for effective team work. This agenda can be modified to address other learning objectives.
At the end of the workshop, we summarize outcomes, outline action items, and conduct a facilitator/workshop assessment. We also follow up with a written report to the student advisors.
